Balanced Budget NOW! Not in 15 Years.

Posted October 9, 2015  |  Filed under Fixing The Government

I have seen many politicians brag that their plan balances the budget in 5, 10, or 15 years. Well that really is not something to brag about. Let me tell you why.

A balanced budget simply means that the government is not spending more money than what is being taken in. If the budget is "not" balanced, that means the government is spending more money than they are taking in. That also means that they have to borrow the money they are spending above and beyond what they are taking in - thus our national debt keeps climbing. As I write this article, the national debt is $18.4 TRILLION!!! Yes, that is trillion, with a "T". So, if a candidate or an organization has a plan to balance the Federal budget in 15 years, the national debt will continue to go up for 15 more years "before" the budget is balanced! I am not behind those candidates and organizations push these plans. These politicians are pulling a smoke and mirror wool over your eyes. Don't let them do this to you!

There is no reason why we cannot balance the budget now. Just stop spending more money that is coming in! It's that simple. People do it every day with their home budget. Why can't the government do the same? If you have not read my post titled "$27,000 a Second", please read it. I have several other posts on this site that address the budget and the debt. They are real eye openers.

Here is what we need to do: We need to start a letter writing and phone campaign and start letting our elected representatives know we will not take this anymore. And don't just do this one time; we need to do this regularly - at least once a month - more often would be better. You only need to write one letter. Type it into your computer, and change the date each time you send it out to a representative. And you can use the same letter for each of your representatives, senators, and any other politician. I guarantee you if they start receiving hundreds of thousands of letters, all saying that you want them to balance the budget now, they will start to listen. Also, tell them why - maybe they don't realize this, or maybe they do and are just trying to fool you. Tell them that you won't be fooled anymore. Also tell the candidates running for office that are bragging about balancing the budget in 5, 10, or 15 years, that is ridiculous - and tell them why and that you won't be fooled.

I have been planning on writing this article for a bit, but decided to write it now because I just saw a news spot on TV where two ex-politicians started a new non-profit organization with one of their goals being to balance the federal budget in 15 years. Again, this "may" sound like a good goal, but keep in mind what I mentioned above about what happens during those 15 years. I'm not going to mention the organization because they have some other very worthy goals.
